Street Art Project
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS! DEADLINE May 30, 2013
All levels of ability are welcome!
Cash Awards will be given for pieces selected for inclusion in the postcard set!
What is it?
The U-C Street Art Project seeks to represent a diversity of perspectives of what “Urbana-Champaign” means to those who live here, including our histories and traditions, as well as our present culture.
We are doing this by collecting creative pieces of any medium (with preference for street arts such as stencils, posters, graffiti, block prints, etc.) from the general public as well as from professional artists and cultural workers, and then sharing them online, through local media outlets, and display on CUMTD buses. SEE BELOW FOR GUIDELINES.
Select works will be curated into a set of printed postcards that will be available online and in local stores.
How do I participate?
We invite you to celebrate our community in the following ways:
Art FOR the Streets (e.g. stencils, silkscreen prints, photocopies, blockprints, graffiti.):
Create pieces intended for public display in non-curated spaces. Submit the pieces themselves or photos of them.
Art FROM the Streets (e.g. photos, and or any other media, including audio):
Create pieces that signify the people, places, and things in our local community: landscape, architecture, community members, etc.
All submissions should be original work. Be sure to include:
- your name
- your phone or email contact
- contact information for any people represented in the work (we need their permission!)
- your website (if applicable)
- a brief description of the piece and who/what/where it pertains to (e.g. “This is a photo of the ‘Fanfare’ scuplture in on Elm St. in Urbana.” “This is a drawing I made of Jim XXXX who has been my neighbor for 17 years.”)
Digital media should be sent in the highest quality format possible to:
